The importance of your boiler

A faulty boiler is not a good piece of news. For anyone. For a start it is one of the few crucial things you have in your house. Think about it; do you really need the TV, the Playstation, the leather sofa, the humungous walk in fridge? Chances are you could do without for a bit. But say its mid winter, three feet of snow outside; can you really do without heating?

That is why it is important to ensure that it is well maintained and in full working order. Moreover, even in warmer climates a faulty boiler can be disastrous. Aside from the obvious CO poisoning potentials, a dodgy boiler is one of the single worst environmental things you can have in your home.

Think of all the heat that would be wasted if your boiler was not working at full capacity, all the energy that is being pumped outside due to a poorly maintained housing case. Actually, think of all the money you are spending using energy that you really don’t want to. Between the financial and environmental concerns a malfunctioning boiler is possibly the most hazard prone thing in your house.

Luckily there are things you can do. Now, unlike the radiators or other easy to fix things in the home, a boiler requires special attention. A properly certified engineer is the only way to go with this; you don’t want to even think about attempting it yourself. British Gas* are renowned for their boiler maintenance service which is both cheap and quick (a major factor to consider), but most of the big energy companies will offer a similar service.

The main thing is to get it done. If it’s the middle of winter and your boiler is faulty then you can’t really solve the problem by turning it off. Get a guy in and sort it. It will save you a great deal of money and you can feel smug that you’re helping the environment at the same time.
